Recent product photography assignments

A selection of our recent product photography projects

In recent months we’ve been involved in a number of very interesting product photography assignments. Although some of these have been challenging, they have also been enjoyable. I love my job as a product photographer, it enables me to work with so many talented designer-makers in Northern Ireland.

Product photography for Michelle Butler Ceramics - Sept 2015

At the beginning of September, I did a shoot for Michelle Butler Ceramics. I had photographed Michelle's products previously for the 'Innovation Boost' which was commissioned by Craft NI.

Michelle’s products are beautiful and have a natural feel about them. When planning the shoot, I considered a couple of options for the background, plain grey background and natural hessian material. The products stood out very well against a plain background. However, to emphasise their natural feel, I also photographed some of the products against hessian material. Both backgrounds worked very well.

Product photography for Viaduct Bound - Sept 2015

Viaduct bound design and make beautiful leather bound journals for personal use, wedding albums and baby albums. This product photography commission came about as the result of our mail shot in September, offering great discounts to tie up with the August craft month.

This was a challenging photo shoot as the combination colours of the leather and the stitches on the spines of the journals had to be absolutely right. Although the entire shoot took longer than I had initially allowed for, both myself and the client are happy with the result.

Product photography for Ann Smyth Stained Glass - Oct 2015

More recently I did a product shoot for Ann Smyth Stained Glass who makes beautiful glass sculpture. This was another challenging photo shoot, as the position of the lighting had to be very carefully chosen to avoid any impurities of the glass catching the light, provide a sparkle and make the cut of the glass stand out. With careful lighting and some retouching, I’ve managed to achieve this. Another successful shoot.
